As from my other posts I have decided to do a mig welding class. Now I ky 2 days into it but it seems more geared towards pipe jins, heavy jobs like bobcat etc. we are using 350A Lincoln's in spray transfer with C10. Now I have talked to my instructors and they maybe open for me to use my everlast 225 lightening. Now the question I have is since my lightening probably won't and I will never use spray transfer can I use C10 on regular mig welding? I can ask but seems the manifold system they use is only C10 do t think they have C25 and do t really want to use mine as a 40cf bottle probably wouldn't last long

afaik you can use c10 on short circuit mig. i havn't done it myself as our normal mig gas is tri mix which you can run in spray mode.

Yeah was t sure how shirt circuit would react it is large enough for spray transfer but it's pushing the upper limits. The lincolns we use are about 340 wire feed and 28V my everlast does 27.8 but I rather do shirt circuit as I'll never really have the need as a hobbyist for sprsy

sounds like you need to practice thinner material. you can still use the big machines, as long as they are not running really big wire.

Well the school only seems to work with 3/8 and yes I want to practice thinner but thicker material is easier to practice on since it's more forgiving and fre material. I am mainly asking because I want to use my welder at school, if I'm going to learn mine as well learn on my own stuff. Mine will do spray transfer. It it's the upper limits that's why I am asking if I do get some thinner material if I can use C10 on regular shirt circuit or will it jack things up. Sure I can bring my own C25 but why pay if I don't have too. Maybe I'll get lucky and they have C25 there I'll ask Monday

@pavetim, what did you find out about the availability of 75/25?

I'm sort of reading between the lines here but I wonder if the course you're in is aimed at vocational training for a specific industry of employer who needs folks to weld thick weldments all day long and is not aimed at teaching a generalized and well rounded foundation of skills. Did the course description have any statement regarding what they would be covering?

I'm far from being an expert but I suspect that for short circuit you'll want to drop the voltage a bit from what you're used to with 75/25 with 90/10 as a starting point for whatever diameter wire you're running. And I suspect you'll have a bit less penetration running 90/10 as CO2 helps punch into the base metal and you'll have less than half of the CO2 you'd have with 75/25. Watching a few videos on dialing in settings might help, too.

Best regards,

Yeah it's 26 week vocational training but I am in a 5 week mih skills course and they do have C25. Letting me bring my new welder so I can learn in that. I'll play around with C25 and C10 a bit I'm basically just doing whatever I find learningful cause I pretty much did what the book had already, I'll even play with mig welding some Al inky thing I can't play with is SS and no trimix or 98/2 there

Did some playing today as I brought my welder to the school to learn on, it's new. I had settings pretty decent for 1/8 and 1/4 coupons on C25 gas I wanted to see what just changing to C10 does and honestly I think I like C10 better. Seemed to produce less spatter, needed slightly less volts to get same bead and can run spray without having to change gas. C10 seems to make a better all around mig has from my playing around today
