So, since I'm new here, here's the thing: I am attending a welding school as part of my training to get a job with one of America's largest submarine manufacturers. Thus far, I think welding is fun and interesting despite the heat, and I'm proud of myself because I passed a "bend test", but I've run into an issue recently: two separate people - an instructor and a fellow student - told me I needed to pick up my speed, which I feel conflicts with advice I've already been given on not rushing anything. Nevertheless, because of this, I feel like my technique got messed up today, which ended up with a guy who will be serving as our proctor for these weld tests giving me a stern lecture on how to do a particular weld properly. As a guy with autism, anxiety issues and anger issues, I am stubborn about doing things right, and because I've been so flustered about getting conflicting advice, I've been thinking about quitting welding school and just going back to doing Uber to make money...that is, unless anyone has any useful advice on staying calm when receiving conflicting advice and being able to genuinely get good at welding.

keep at it. teachers can be crap, they are human.
i suggest to do practice outside of class so you can work at your own pace. it can take a bit to get comfortable, get that confidence up.
tweak it until it breaks
