What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

I have my newly born-again craftsman cutting torch , regulator(s), upgraded gas bottles to B and M from the really tiny MC Bottles and had no serious way to use the setup safely. Home depot bucket started out as a joke but then got old real fast……..

Having eyeballed my LWS for a cart and pintrest for ideas for a DIY project I began my project tonight.

I found a hand truck on craigslist for $10 and cut it down to a size made for my bottles. I am ready to weld…..MIG,TIG ‘o STIK:Thin metal-goin with MIG.

I have a mock up before I tack it up tomorrow using a piece of PVC.

What could I use to hold these together while I tack it up? Metal tape, long enough to tack one tube on far side?

Mocking it up in space lets me align where clamping to a welding table might result in a hidden weird angle after I weld it.

Any ideas?

Do you have a picture of what you’re trying to do? The two pics posted are duplicates of each other. At least a sketch?

I don't know why you shortened the cart. Having the length gives you leverage to handle the tanks and somewhere you will be looking for that leverage,,,not today, maybe tomorrow. If it's mig you're using, you can hold the handle close and tack it then work on final welding by skipping around and letting the tubes cool.

My bad, I see now that the two pictures show a differing height of the handle tubes.

Easiest way to tack it up is to put a single tack on backside of middle tube, then a single tack on one side tube (on the front side of it) then repeat on other side tube. This should provide you the means to tweak it a bit and the opposing tacks align the setup.

Then tack each tube in the same order one tack at a time, until you have 3-4 tacks per tube. Then weld it out.

If you become worried about strength, cut a section of slightly larger tubing with a close ID to the OD of the cart’s tubing, then weld that section (having cut it in half lengthwise) over the joint. This scabbed on weldment will add tremendous strength to the joints.
