I have a WP17 tig torch and I use a Gas Lens and see thru cup.
It seems the see thru cups only come in a stubby variety. As a result my 57Y02PK back cap, which is the longest cap with a 3/8-32 thread, is too short for a fresh tungsten, and sticks out to far. My 57Y02PK back cap is 4,68 inches long and I would need it to be about 5.5 inches long.
I cannot fit a full-length tungsten without excessive stick out.
I know a lot of people cut their tungsten’s in half and sharpen both ends, but I like having a full-length tungsten, so I am not looking for those sort of suggestions thanks. Instead, I am looking for ideas on how to extend a my 57Y02PK back cap or make a custom back cap.
I have seen custom made back caps:

https://outlawleathertx.com/collections ... -back-caps
https://www.weldporn.com/product/tigware-back-caps/
I think they are made of Acrylic or Teflon. It appears that these mods use a cut off 3/8 thread bit from a commercial back cap and add and overlay. I wonder how the attach the threaded bit to the long bit?
I was thinking of making a simple extension: 1 inch aluminium pipe with 4 mm ID, male thread on end and female thread at the other. This would screw in close to where I often hold the torch and I am concerned it will get too hot. Maybe an insulating material covering over the Aluminium, like wood?
A simple solution would be if I could find a longer c-thru cup, but I can’t.
Please share any ideas or info on customizing back caps.

I can see a really long back cap getting in the way - or poking your eye out.
1. Take a full length cap, cut it in half.
2. Cut one inch (or whatever is needed) from the middle of another.
3. Insert the one inch bit between the halves of the one cut in half.
4. Put heat shrink tube over the lot.
This assumes:
1. You're not going to get the torch so got the tube bursts into flames and
2. you make sure you have a proper gas seal. Some additional sealant under the heat shrink might be needed.
