Hi everybody,I thought to use mig welding wire to tig welding rod like. Is this permissible, for steel or iron for limited use in very small jobs.
The usual mig wire 0.8mm iron not flux core.
.Thank you.

Generally not a problem.

In "ER70S", for example, E = electrode (MIG) and R = rod (TIG for example).

Thank you,I had to do a delicate jop like jwelry.Very sharp tungsten few amperes 27 in particular job very close arc .
I would prefer 309 inox but it is not availiable les than 1.6mm.I have seen a job where a tiny key slot in 20mm crankshaft was repaired.Builting the edge
of the slot wall.
It is a technic for advanced welders.

While using MIG wire will work just fine, ER309L TIG rod is commonly available in .035"(.89mm) and .045"(1.14mm). Maybe availability depends on location?

the smallest rod i come across is 1mm, then 1.2mm. typically 308 and 316.

but it also depends on what your welding. i've used 1.6mm rod to weld 0.8mm sheet before.

I have plenty of 316L, ER80, ERTi-1 and 312 in 0.035 TIG rod. Maybe it’s a US availability?

probably just my local market. i just had a look and some do have 0.9mm wires but only in a few grades. which is a lot more than they used to have. it could be they didn't stock it as it didn't sell and no one uses it because no one stocks it.
however there has been a recent shakeup in the local market with a bit of a takeover happening between major players.
