Simple question. Do you need a back purge for stainless SMAW? My experience with stainless has been GTAW so I purge that. But I've never sick welded stainless.

No because the slag runs under the root and protects the molten pool.

308L rods weld very nice smaw, smooth shiny an when done right the slag just pops right off. Its as easy as 6013....
I weld stainless, stainless and more stainless...Food Industry, sanitary process piping, vessels, whatever is needed, I like to make stuff.
