Is there much difference from one brand to another in welding rod for stick welding ???

I used some Blue Demon 7018 the onther day and the rod worked real well !!!

Yes.

The quality controls for the metallurgy and flux vary widely from one manufacturer to another, and with imports in particular there is no enforcable standard for import on either.

I'll take Lincoln Electric brand any time. ESAB usually isn't bad, either.

I won't burn anything made in China, as the standards that exist there don't seem to be enforced in any way, and I'd be afraid to breath anywhere near a live arc.
