Re: POROUS WELDS

i would be guessing gas flow. possibly dirty vents in the torch, crushed liner or a flowmeter failing. ie blockage somewhere. get one of the gas flow meters you can put on the end of the the torch and measure the flow. odds are it your getting a puff of gas at the start and then the flow drops right...

Re: Hello, everyone.

Welcome to the farm. Tell us what it is that are looking to get info on. There's still some of us that visit here with lots of info available. I've been watching a lot of videos trying to figure out the gas problem with my TIG. Should I just post the information here, or start a new topic in an app...

looks like crummies web page is also gone. i guess he may have quit his business.

however any decent machine shop should be able to make one.

Re: Stubby gas lens argon flow rates ( confused)

Hello, I am new to tig and have a primeweld 225x I am using a ck17 torch with stubby gas lens and a #5 stubby cup to weld some beads on 1/8” aluminum plate. Even with a #5 I need about 20cfh to produce a good weld….. 10 cfh won’t even puddle and 15 isn’t much better….. I tried from 10-65 cfh ( as h...

Re: Engine Manifold and local grounding

i would be worried it would arc inside a master cylinder, or in a linkage. places you never want welds or arc marks. hence why i think ground on the rod itself is a safer choice.

Re: Engine Manifold and local grounding

you would need to get the earth onto the pushrod, otherwise it will arc off the rod onto something else. make sure the earth is clamped down well.

Re: Polarity on Stick

eg some machine won't run 6011 at all. Tweake I think you meant to say some lower end inverter type machines won’t run 6010. 6011 and 6013 are often recommended alternatives to that rod for these boxes. no. what i wrote is correct. some machines won't even run 6011, especially lower end inverters. ...

Re: Polarity on Stick

Thanks. I interested 6011 and 7018. My question is if you use other than the recommended electrode polarity, what will happen? keep in mind it will vary depending on manufacture and also your machine. eg some machine won't run 6011 at all. some rods say they will run but don't. some say they don't ...

cj737 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 8:22 am Biggest issue with spray mode is position dependence. I can’t envision welding a roll cage with spray transfer for steel.
thats why you use pulse. pulse spray can be used in all positions.

Re: Anyone here use Spray MIG or Pulsed MIG welding for mild steel???

i do very little mig, i've only once done spray mig with steel. i think the biggest downside for a lot of people is the gas requirements. you need high argon gas mix like 90/10. (our standard gas here is tri mix co2/o2/ar that you can use for it) also you need pulse for multi positions, which means ...

Re: Vulcan helmet flashing at start of weld

small tip with any solar panel helmet, leave them out in the sun. inside a moderate sunny workshop is fine.
don't go putting it in a box, in a locker, or face down. let the solar panel get some light.

maybe the electronics is a bit wonky because its not charged up fully.

Hard to say what up with the HF helmet. I would have guessed the sensitivity adjustment is not correct but obviously you tried that. The guys here will probably scould me for saying this, but you don't need a $400 helmet for hobby work. I am currently using an Arccaptain Hyperview helmet ($89). i t...

I have plenty of 316L, ER80, ERTi-1 and 312 in 0.035 TIG rod. Maybe it’s a US availability? probably just my local market. i just had a look and some do have 0.9mm wires but only in a few grades. which is a lot more than they used to have. it could be they didn't stock it as it didn't sell and no o...

jody has some good video's on it. you might see what your missing. 6013's are probably the hardest rod to use. i would use 7018, tho 7016 is a tad easier. might be worthwhile posting a pic or two. maybe someone can see whats going wrong of that. i'm not all that good at it, so i will leave it to oth...

split collet and wedge collets are interchangeable. down to personal preference.
wedge collets are more durable but i found they can put the tungsten at a slight angle.
